I usually tell my clients that I will give them as much or as little direction as I feel like they need in order to get the photos they want. Some people are really comfortable being photographed; the “moments” just unfold naturally without me saying much. Others would rather stab their eyeball out with a pencil than have a camera pointed at them. When I first met with Kim and Jack, Kim expressed that they would need a bit of guidance. About 2 minutes after we started their engagement session at Central Park in Huntington Beach, I told Kim I would have to disagree with her previous statement! Once these two snuggled up together, they were in their own little love-filled world. It was the cutest thing ever!
I think sometimes people judge how photogenic they are based on photos taken on some random $200 point and shoot camera. Newsflash- those cameras make EVERYONE look horrible! Honestly, has anyone ever had a really beautiful photo taken of themselves on one of those? I think not. So the lesson of the day is…hire a wedding photographer who you feel like you can be yourself in front of, make sure they have tons of experience with WEDDINGS, and give yourself a big confidence boost before the photos begin. Trust me, your confidence will shine through in your images, just like it did with Kim and Jack.
Kim and Jack tie the knot in April at Dove Canyon Country Club. Images from another Dove Canyon wedding.
Jack and Kim’s fur baby, Tux, about to attack me with slobbery kisses. My hubby, Chriss, did an awesome job with the off-camera lighting huh?!
Downtown Huntington Beach is a special spot to Kim and Jack, so we headed down there when we were finished at the park. They ate dinner at Spark right before Jack proposed!
The Shorebreak Hotel serves as a colorful backdrop, along with the green and blue ground.
